If you think of a bellydancer, chances are the images called to mind are those of swirling veils, shaking hips, and tinkling finger cymbals. Classical bellydance encompasses the entertainment style one would find in the finest theaters and cabarets from Cairo to Istanbul. The style is airy, graceful and fluid. Dancers are decked in dazzling costumes embellished with crystals, glass beads, sequins and luxe fabrics. The rich, orchestral music is complex and full of subtle nuances and dramatic crescendos. Bellydance, correctly known as Oriental Dance or Raqs Sharqi, evolved from Middle Eastern folk dances, fused with traces of ballet and Hollywood-inspired glamour.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Nefabit is a lifelong lover of dance who hails from Spokane, Washington. A second-generation dancer, she has studied belly dance with her mother Delilah Ra, as well as classical and cultural dance forms from an early age. Nefabit performs and teaches throughout the US and Canada, and has become known for a powerful, maximalist style. She is the director of Northwest Bellydance Academy, and professional entertainment troupe Northwest Bellydance Company. She has won several prestigious national and international titles, including Bellydancer of the Universe 2021, and Bellydancer USA 2022. In 2021 she was accepted to the most prestigious touring bellydance company in the world, Bellydance Evolution.
